DEEPAWALI or Diwali-a festival of INDIA

DEEPAWALI or DIWALI

Deepawali is a word which literally means ''row of diyas'',diyas are small clay lamps which serve the purpose of lighting in the night. Deepawali is a very famous and most happily celebrated festival of India, there is a religious story behind the celebration of this festival. Deepawali comes on every 15th of the Kartik month(October/November) as scheduled in the Indian Hindi calender.
DEEPAWALI

When ''Lord Rama'' returned to his home Ayodhya after victory over demon 'Raavana' and 14 year exile then the people of Ayodhya lit the clay lamps of 'ghee' and after that Deepawali is celebrated with joy, people of India have a unique tradition to celebrate Deepawali, they arrange diyas on their terraces and everywhere in the house where darkness is there, everybody in family wear new clothes on the day of festival, all houses are cleaned before the festival date and are painted with new colors to give a good look to the house, children light fire-crackers to enjoy this festival even parents also take part in this. There is a tradition to buy reserved welalth in the form of gold, silver, other metals or something new one day before Diwali on ''Dhanteras''. In every house whether it is rich or poor 'pakories' are made which are spicy made from fried chopped vegetables in besan.
GODDESS LAKSMI

Lordess Lakshmi ''the goddess of wealth'' is worshiped on the day of Deepawali as it is said that on this day wealth comes to house and so every corner of the house should be bright. Prasad is distributed in each house after the worship of Goddess Lakshmi.
CHAUSAR

There is a very old tradition still in the villages of India to play ''Chausar'' on the eve of Deepawali which has been inherited from the kings of old time and is still continued in many villages of India, this game is based on luck and players use to bet money on the game while playing.
In West Bengal (a state of India),Worship of ''Goddess Kaali'' is performed with unique rituals and with much care as it is said that a mistake in the worship can lead to the angriness of the Lordess and bad effects due to those mistakes. There is holiday everywhere one day before and after the festival in India, this festival is really very exciting and prosperous.

This festival has a scientific advantage that all the insects and beetles get killed in the diyas as they come near it when these are lit outside. A disadvantage of Deepawali is that there is a waste of huge amount of vegetable oil(mustard oil) in lighting the diyas.

''WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY DIWALI'' THIS YEAR....
